A bit more about me …

Hi, I’m Debbie, a mother of two Grown up kids and partner to Des.

I live in Powys, mid Wales and absolutely love being part of the community here and I really enjoy the beautiful rural settings around this area, especially walking our dogs, horse riding, exploring new areas, fishing, amateur dramatics and so much more I haven’t even discovered yet, I’m sure.

I have over 20 years experience working as a nurse in a variety of settings, including roles in Mental Health, Care Work, Health and Wellbeing and even Accident and Emergency liaison for those who needed extra support.

A few years ago, as many did, I noticed a steady decline in the services that were being offered by the NHS due to the cuts nationally. I was working as a nurse in a care home and noticed that appointments and treatments were getting harder to come by and noticed one area that was being affected more and more.

I identified how valuable it is to be able to hear and communicate well, and the implications it has to an individual’s health, comfort and wellbeing if this becomes a barrier. I realised that there was a desperate need for this service to be readily available and affordable.

I looked into this and decided to do something about it.

I attended the “Diploma in Primary Ear Care and Microsuction” course at “NHS Rotherham”,

The “Introduction to Ear Care and Microsuction” training course in Staffordshire, and ultimately gained my “Clinical Competence in Microsuction and Ear Care” at “The Hearing Lab” in Liverpool.

In addition to this I have also attended Ear Care updates and am a member of the “British Society of Audiology” (BSA).

Initially, I established Ear Care and Microsuction services in affiliation with “Lyme Bay Ear Clinic”. This is owned by a colleague and friend, but it quickly became apparent, that the significant number of requests health care professionals are continuing to experience, has created a significant demand for this service in areas that could not be reached by this affiliation.

This inspired me to create “DLM Ear Care” an independent service covering the West Dorset areas and quickly spreading to the surrounding areas of South Somerset and East Devon too.

To cut a long story short, I was given the chance to join this amazing community here in the most beautiful rural area of Mid Wales and jumped at it!

I contracted a manager to look after my patients in Dorset and am now offering my services here in North Powys as “Ear Care Powys”.
